Perth City is the capital of the state of Western Australia, the world's most remote capital city and also listed in the Economist's 2010 list as the joint eighth most livable city in the world. Considering the large population of the area, the city has a surprisingly un-busy feel. The chilled out and relaxed style of living that so characterizes Australia is epitomized in this laid back city. Numerous bars, beaches, restaurants and cafés allow the population to spread out across the city in the evenings to relax and enjoy themselves in the glorious weather with Swan River in the background. The city is situated along the edge of Swan River and very close to the coast; parklands and beaches form a portion of the city, providing a perfect place to relax and rest after a tiring day of chilling out. Pert boutique hotels provide a convenient and comfortable place to stay whilst visiting the area.
In an area originally inhabited by Noongar Aboriginal people for over 40.000 years, Perth was established by European settlers as the first settlement of its kind in the Western third of the continent. Originally the area had been passed over by settlers due to the assumption that it would be difficult to establish agriculture here, but in 1829, British colonists landed in the region and founded Perth. In the following thirty years there ensued a series of conflicts between the settlers and the native people, which was finally decided by the Battle of Pinjarra and the subsequent retreat of the native people to swamps and lakes north of the area. As of 1850, due to the requirement for cheap labor on the agricultural settlements, Perth was held open to the convicts deported from Britain. Since that time Perth has grown and its establishing industry boomed. In the 1960's especially the area became the source of a large number of valuable resources and consequently the city grew and prospered under its relative wealth.
